Certified B Corporation

The B Corp certification takes a holistic approach to address the ethical and sustainable aspects of an entire company. Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

Mumutane, Skagerak and Wehlers are all B Corp certified.

GOTS - Global Organic Textile Standard

GOTS is a global standard for organic fibers. It covers the processing, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, trading, and distribution of all textiles made from at least 70% certified organic natural fibers. The textiles must meet a certain set of environmental standards (toxicity, wastewater, etc.) as well as social criteria in accordance with the International Labor Organization (ILO). There are a number of different certifying bodies that can award certification, but all of them use the same standards.

Nordic Swan Ecolabel

The Nordic Swan Ecolabel demonstrates that a product is a good environmental choice. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel works to reduce the environmental impact from production and consumption of goods. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is available for 65 product groups and sets strict environmental requirements in all relevant phases of a product’s life cycle. The Swan checks that products fulfil certain criteria using methods such as samples from independent laboratories, certificates and control visits before a product is approved.

Aiia Care, KBHavn, Little ChubbiesMater, OmhuPaper Collective and Skagerak all carry products that are labelled with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances) is a regulation of the European Union, adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals, while enhancing the competitiveness of the EU chemicals industry. It also promotes alternative methods for the hazard assessment of substances in order to reduce the number of tests on animals.

The Fairtrade Mark is an independent consumer label which appears on products to signify that Fairtrade standards have been met. These standards relate to producers and workers and concern fairer terms of trade, better prices and longer lead times to promote security and economic self-sufficiency as well as sustainable production practices.

OEKO-TEX is an international association that tests for harmful substances in the various stages of textile production. It has two overall certification labels: the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and the OEKO-TEX Standard 1000. The OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is a global uniform testing and certification system for textile raw materials, intermediate and end products at all stages of production. Therefore, Standard 100 can be considered both a global health and environmental certificate. The OEKO-TEX Standard 1000 is a testing, auditing and certification system for environmentally friendly production sites throughout the textile processing chain.

Brands like 1 People, August SandgrenCONSJUS, Dunville Apparel, Little Boar, Mumutane, Nordifakt, Omhu, SAGA Copenhagen, Skagerak, Studio Feder and Åbenlys all have products with OEKO-TEX certified materials.

EU Ecolabel

The EU Ecolabel is a label of environmental excellence that is awarded to products and services meeting high environmental standards throughout their life-cycle: from raw material extraction, to production, distribution and disposal. The EU Ecolabel promotes a circular economy by encouraging producers to generate less waste and CO2 during the manufacturing process. The EU  Ecolabel criteria guarantee the efficiency of their environmental actions through third party controls.

BCI - Better Cotton Initiative

The Better Cotton Initiative is an initiative to promote sustainable cotton production and secure more transparency throughout global value chains. The BCI is a not-for-profit organisation that exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future. For BCI members, it is about commitment to a more sustainable cotton production and willingness to invest in BCI farmers. Through BCI and its partners, farmers receive training on how to use water efficiently, care for the health of the soil and natural habitats, reduce use of the most harmful chemicals and apply decent work principles. BCI Farmers implementing this system are licensed to sell Better Cotton.

GRS - Global Recycled Standard

The GRS is a track and trace system that verifies the number of recycled parts or materials in a given product. The GRS is intended to meet the needs of companies looking to verify the recycled content of their products (both finished and intermediate) and to verify responsible social, environmental and chemical practices in their production. The objectives of the GRS are to define requirements to ensure accurate content claims and good working conditions, and that harmful environmental and chemical impacts are minimised. This includes companies in ginning, spinning, weaving and knitting, dyeing and printing and stitching in more than 50 countries.

All the products marketed with the Ecocert logo have been verified from composition to processing and packaging. Consumers are thus given a transparent information on the content in natural and organic materials. Ecocert has several certification schemes, including Cosmos Organic, Natural Detergent, Climate Commitment, Organic Ecopetcare and Natural Origin Home Fragnance.

Aiia Care, BADA, Skøn Skincare and Yroli Skincare all have products with Ecocert certified ingredients.

FSC - Forest Stweardship Council

FSC forest management certification confirms that the forest is being managed in a way that preserves biological diversity and benefits the lives of local people and workers, while ensuring it sustains economic viability.

When you buy a product made from FSC Certified Wood, it is your guarantee that for each tree used, a new tree is planted.

Brands like KBHavnLittle Chubbies, Magnus OlesenMater, Paper Collective, Skagerak, The Brown Paper Movement and We Do Wood all use FSC Certified Wood for their products.

Cradle to Cradle (C2C)

The Cradle to Cradle certification is a multi-attribute eco-label providing a means to demonstrate efforts in ecointelligent product design. Company efforts across multiple focus areas; eco materials, re-cycling, renewable energy, water efficiency and social responsibility, are awarded either Basic, Silver, Gold, or Platinum level certification. This applies to materials, sub-assemblies and finished products.

Rainforest Alliance

Rainforest Alliance's main goal is to protect forests and wants to improve the living conditions of farmers, promote human rights and combat climate change.

The seal means that a certified product or ingredient has been produced using methods that support the three pillars of sustainability: social, economic, and environmental. Independent, third-party auditors evaluate farmers against requirements in all three areas before awarding or renewing certification.

 EU Organic Label

The EU Organic Label can only be used on products that have been certified as organic by an authorised control agency or body. This means that the products have fulfilled strict conditions on how they must be produced, processed, transported and stored. The logo can only be used on products when they contain at least 95% organic ingredients and additionally respect further strict conditions for the remaining 5%. The same ingredient cannot be present in organic and non-organic form when labelled with the EU Organic Label. It is mandatory to use the EU organic logo.

Statskontrolleret Økologisk (DK)

Statskontrolleret Økologisk is a Danish label meaning 'state controlled organic' and is also known as The Ø Logo. It is a voluntary label for organic foods and certain non-food products that have been prepared under organic inspection in Denmark. The label can also be used for imported organic foods but only if the latest preparation of the product (processing, packaging or labelling) has taken place in a Danish company inspected by the public authorities.
In order to get the label, products must be organic and no use of GMO or ionizing radiation is allowed.

Organic Content Standard (OCS)

The Organic Content Standard 100 (OCS 100) and Organic Content Standard blended (OCS blended) applies to any non-food product containing 5-100% organic material. It verifies the presence and amount of organic material in a final product and tracks the flow of a raw material from its source to the final product. The OCS relies on third-party verification to confirm whether a final product contains the accurate amount of a given organically grown material. OCS allows for transparent, consistent and comprehensive independent evaluation and verification of organic material content claims on products.

Responsible Wool Standard (RWS)

The Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) is an industry tool designed to recognize the best practices of farmers, ensuring that wool comes from farms with a progressive approach to managing their land, and from sheep that have been treated responsibly. The RWS is a voluntary global standard that provides verification of the practices that are happening at farm level. The standard also exists for mohair and alpaca.

ProTerra Foundation

The ProTerra Foundation is a not-forprofit organisation that advances and promotes sustainability at all levels of the feed and food production system. It is a commitment to full transparency and traceability throughout the supply chain. It was made based on the concern for the potential detrimental impact of herbicide-resistant, genetically modified crops on ecosystems and biodiversity. ProTerra is an independent third-party certification that ensures high quality supplies of crops, food, and feed, that are independently certified as Non-GMO and produced with improved sustainability.

ISO 9001

The 9001 standard focuses primarily on the consumer. It is based on a number of quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the  motivation and implication of top management, the process approach and continual improvement. Using ISO 9001 helps ensure that customers get consistent, good-quality products and services.

ISO 50001

ISO 50001 is designed to support organizations in all sectors. This ISO standard provides a practical way to improve energy use through the development of an energy management system (EnMS). Thus, this certification indicates that companies have implemented an energy management system.

ISO 14001

ISO 14001 sets out the criteria for an environmental management system and can be certified to. It maps out a framework that a company or organization can follow to set up an effective environmental management system. The standard is a guarantee that environmental impact is being measured and improved.

ISO 45001

ISO 45001:2018 specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system, and gives guidance for its use, to enable organizations to provide safe and healthy workplaces. It seeks to prevent  work-related injuries and diseases, including promoting and protecting physical and mental health as well as by proactively improving its OH&S performance.

HIGG Index

The Higg Index is not a certification system. Developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), the Higg Index is a suite of tools that enables brands, retailers, and facilities of all sizes - at every stage in their sustainability journey - to accurately measure and score a company or product’s sustainability performance. The Higg Index delivers a holistic overview that empowers businesses to make meaningful improvements that protect the well-being of factory workers, local communities, and the environment.

The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC)

The Responsible Jewellery Council is a not-for-profit standard setting and certification organisation. The certification scheme span the jewellery supply chain from mine to retail. Following its code of practicing, RJC covers human and labour rights, environmental impact and product disclosure.

PETA Approved Vegan

PETA is one of the largest animals’ rights organizations and focuses its attention on four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: in laboratories, in the food industry, in the clothing trade, and in the entertainment industry.

The PETA-Approved Vegan logo highlights that clothing, accessories, furniture, and home decor items are made of vegan alternatives to animal-derived materials such as leather, fur, silk, feathers, or bone.

PETA Cruelty Free

Cruelty Free is also a certification by PETA, but this certification is for cosmetics, personal-care products, or household-cleaning products.

Products and companies with the Cruelty Free certification either signed PETA’s statement of assurance or provided a statement verifying that they do not conduct or commission any animal tests on ingredients, formulations, or finished products and that they pledge not to do so in the future as well as refuse to use any animal-derived ingredients, such as honey, beeswax, or carmine, in its products.

Vegan Trademark

The Vegan Trademark is issued by The Vegan Society. It helps identify products that are free from animal ingredients and animal testing. The Vegan Trademark is renewed on a yearly basis to ensure the most up to date information.

Allergy Certified

Allergy Certified is an international allergy label with strict requirements to ingredients allowed. Every single ingredient in products with the Allergy Certified logo have been carefully reviewed by a toxicologist and made a risk assessment. When you see the Allergy Certified logo on a product, you can be sure that there is the least possible risk of allergies.

Fairtrade Gold and Silver

A new certification, combining Fairtrade International and the Alliance for Responsible Mining, that assures consumers that silver and gold jewelry is responsibly sourced, also allowing small-scaled minors to improve their living situation.

The Fairtrade Gold Standard includes strict requirements on working conditions, health and safety, handling chemicals, women’s rights, child labour and protection of the environment including water sources and forests. Workers in Fairtrade certified gold mines also receive a guaranteed Fairtrade Minimum Price for their product.

Fairmined is an assurance label that certifies gold from empowered responsible artisanal and small-scale mining organizations. It ensures social development, environmental protection and responsibly managed community mines.

The International Perfume Foundation (IPF)

IPF is a not-for-profit organization committed to increase awareness and promote the importance of natural perfume and it's heritage. IPF Works to put back flowers and plants into perfumes and all IPF certified perfumers formulate perfumes from 100% natural materials using biodynamic and botanical ingredients that do not include GMO plants. The perfumes do not include animal musk, synthetic compounds or parabens. The perfumes are not tested on animals.

SA8000 Standard

The SA8000 Standard is based on internationally recognized standards of decent work, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, ILO conventions, and national laws. SA8000 applies a management-systems  approach to social performance and emphasizes continual improvement. It seeks to prevent child labour and forced labour, improve heath and safety standards, promote the right to freedom of association and right to collective bargaining and prevent discrimination.

Omhu and Superstainable have products that are made in SA8000 certified factories.
