Jou Quilts was founded in Denmark in 2019 by Line Meldgård Hviid. Line made her first quilt when she was expecting her first child. Many years later, Line combined her creative mind with her personal interest, and the result is a beautiful and colourful wall-hanging quilt collection. Line draws inspiration from the modern universe of colour blocking. The result is small pieces of art fit for any wall.
The quilts are designed to give a unique and personal styling to your home. As an added bonus, they also provide great acoustics to the room. However, they are not exclusively meant for the wall. The quilts are multi-functional and can also be used on the bed or on the sofa.
Jou Quilts is the result of a personal interest that has now turned into a business in a very short period of time. Sustainability lies close to the founder’s heart, but as this brand is in its early stages, there is still some ground to be covered. This is why Jou Quilts is a Rising Star in our universe.
Jou Quilts is inspired by a personal interest and creative mindset to make a colourful wallhanging quilt collection that is responsible and handmade.
All quilts are made from certified organic cotton. Each quilt is unique with small differences due to parts of the handwork that goes into making each quilt.
They are designed in Denmark and made in India, where responsible production and consumption is of focus to ensure the efficient and sustainable use of natural resources.
Jou Quilts is a unique way of killing two birds with one stone: Beautiful, handmade art and sound-absorbing texture for your walls.
The Design Phase is a crucial part of determining a product’s sustainable capabilities. We’ve chosen to highlight a few genius steps that enable a sustainable product right from the beginning.
The materials used for a certain product and how these materials come to life are of crucial importance to the sustainable capabilities we seek in products.
This step relates to the transportation of the raw materials from when they are first obtained (harvested etc.) to the production site. Obviously, the closer to the production site, the better.
Obviously, the production of a certain product has an impact on the overall level of sustainability. Luckily, many manufacturers have now taken steps towards more sustainable production methods.
How a brand chooses to package its products will have a significant influence of the carbon impact from packaging and transportation.
This step relates to the distribution of products when they have been produced. Obviously, the closer to the brand’s warehouse, the better.
How you choose to use and take care of a product has a bigger impact than you think. Just think about how much longer a shirt lasts if it has been washed in the right way.
At this step, there is no way out and we have to find some way of discarding our product. How we discard a product will significantly influence the opportunity of reusing materials used.
