Brand sustainability

Møbel Copenhagen is about great design and filling the gap in the Scandinavian furniture industry. They do this by offering customizable solutions and by creating useful and long-lasting furniture. Møbel Copenhagen follows these #6 principles to better its performance, environmentally, economically and socially.

#1 – Great design with the potential to last a lifetime

Møbel Copenhagen celebrates the classic virtues – craftsmanship, functionalism and honest materials – but insists on being bold, looking forward and offering furniture designed for today and for the days to come: The classics of tomorrow. By bridging tradition and innovation – they create and curate designs that display curiosity and courage made to last for centuries. When prolonging the use phase of the product life cycle, the need for new products with the same functionality becomes unnecessary.

#2 – Equal focus on the economical, social and environmental bottom line

Møbel Copenhagen strives towards positive impact, not only through its products but also through its company values.

#3 – Create partnerships

Create partnerships where value is achieved both ways. By creating partnerships Møbel Copenhagen are able to achieve things they are not able to achieve on their own. Examples are partnerships with Zeal, The Upcycl, designers and suppliers.

#4 – Design for durability, disassembly and recyclability

Designing for durability has a direct correlation to principle #1, and is part of prolonging the product’s use phase. Recycling and repair of the products can be facilitated by making the products easily separable.

#5 – Use responsible production and logistics

Møbel Copenhagen ensures that its products are manufactured under responsible production standards – and that they produce most of their products inside the borders of Europe to reduce transport distance. They always flat-pack when possible to minimize the impact of transportation and storage.

#6 – Seize every opportunity to do better

As the focus on sustainable takes increases every day, Møbel Copenhagen aims to stay updated, experience and be open to every new way of improving its imprint.

Sustainable highlights on brand level

Product Lifecycle

Design

The Design Phase is a crucial part of determining a product’s sustainable capabilities. We’ve chosen to highlight a few genius steps that enable a sustainable product right from the beginning.

    Material & Material Extraction

The materials used for a certain product and how these materials come to life are of crucial importance to the sustainable capabilities we seek in products.

      Transportation of Materials

This step relates to the transportation of the raw materials from when they are first obtained (harvested etc.) to the production site. Obviously, the closer to the production site, the better.

        Production

Obviously, the production of a certain product has an impact on the overall level of sustainability. Luckily, many manufacturers have now taken steps towards more sustainable production methods.

          Packaging

How a brand chooses to package its products will have a significant influence of the carbon impact from packaging and transportation.

            Distribution

This step relates to the distribution of products when they have been produced. Obviously, the closer to the brand’s warehouse, the better.

              Usage

How you choose to use and take care of a product has a bigger impact than you think. Just think about how much longer a shirt lasts if it has been washed in the right way.

                End of life

At this step, there is no way out and we have to find some way of discarding our product. How we discard a product will significantly influence the opportunity of reusing materials used.
