About MyuM

When MyuM founder, Faustine Durand, ended her studies at Paris’ National School of Fine Arts, she had the desire to create non-toxic and cruelty-free toys that teach young kids the importance of healthy eating and sustainable food practices. MyuM was thus born, and today, the French brand is celebrated for their Veggy Toys – a family of certified organic toys shaped like fruits and vegetables, meant to aid an intelligent, committed, and genderless education. Beautifully handcrafted and ethically produced, they are intended to be that unisex play option you’ve been long searching for your little ones.

Entirely handmade from GOTS and OEKO-TEX® certified organic cotton, the MyuM Natural Collection is a set of crochet toys that are great for encouraging hand-eye coordination and imaginative play. Charlotte the carrot, the green peas family, Betty the beetroot, Louie the radish, and the cherry sisters are all plastic-free, cruelty-free, vegan friendly, and gender-neutral companions to follow your child’s playtime. Once your baby is done using these high-quality rattles, the fruit and vegetable toys are wonderful to pass down to younger siblings or become a healthy addition to any play kitchen.

Created with respect for people and nature, the Veggy Toy harvest is now officially in season!

Brand Ethos

MyuM shares essential core values and life principles through game. Disembarking the vegetable patch, MyuM’s Veggy Toys are here to educate children on the importance of nature and healthy eating. With the impeding urgency of escalating global warming, the company takes it as its duty to help sensitize the next generation to nature and the benefits of eating green.

Evolutionary toys that follow the child’s journey from birth, their selection of fruit and vegetable rattle kits are handmade in crochet, a texture that will stimulate the baby's curiosity while awakening the senses. Low maintenance, washable and completely unique, their unisex toys are extremely eco-friendly, as they’re made solely out of OEKO-TEX® and GOTS certified organic cotton.

Brand sustainability

MyuM is committed to ethical working conditions and social responsibility, developing the work of women in a respectful way, and actively participating in their emancipation. On her journey, Faustine was joined by a master crochet craftswoman that helped her set up an independent women's workshop in a village in southern China. Today, the fair-trade workshop is comprised of a team of over 30 women who crochet each vegetable toy by hand. MyuM grants all its talented artisans the possibility to work from home, thus allowing for a good work-life balance and earning a fair living in good working conditions.

All their crochet toys are created the old-fashioned way, since MyuM wishes to cultivate ancestral know-how when giving shape to their creative ideas. Their manufacturing is part of a low-energy production process, as unlike knitting, crochet is done completely manually. Crochet is an artisanal technique that requires time, precision and dexterity, with origins dating as far back as the end of the Middle Ages. In this mechanized world, it remains one of the very few art processes that no machine has managed to duplicate. Relying exclusively on the fairy fingers of their trained craftswomen, their handmade rattles comply with all European safety standards, making their toys completely non-toxic and suitable even for infants.

True to its values, MyuM expands its business and exports its products with great respect for people, animals and nature. Against any kind of environmental harm, MyuM’s production is both cruelty-free and plastic-free. Each of their soft toys is handcrafted from plant fibres only – GOTS and OEKO-TEX® 100% organic cotton yarn exterior and 100% cotton flower interior. MyuM is also committed to reducing its carbon footprint, which is why they conduct their shipping from China to Europe by train, one of the most energy-efficient means of transportation out there, in plastic-free packaging like craft paper or cotton bags.

Product Lifecycle

Design

The Design Phase is a crucial part of determining a product’s sustainable capabilities. We’ve chosen to highlight a few genius steps that enable a sustainable product right from the beginning.

    Material & Material Extraction

The materials used for a certain product and how these materials come to life are of crucial importance to the sustainable capabilities we seek in products.

      Transportation of Materials

This step relates to the transportation of the raw materials from when they are first obtained (harvested etc.) to the production site. Obviously, the closer to the production site, the better.

        Production

Obviously, the production of a certain product has an impact on the overall level of sustainability. Luckily, many manufacturers have now taken steps towards more sustainable production methods.

          Packaging

How a brand chooses to package its products will have a significant influence of the carbon impact from packaging and transportation.

            Distribution

This step relates to the distribution of products when they have been produced. Obviously, the closer to the brand’s warehouse, the better.

              Usage

How you choose to use and take care of a product has a bigger impact than you think. Just think about how much longer a shirt lasts if it has been washed in the right way.

                End of life

At this step, there is no way out and we have to find some way of discarding our product. How we discard a product will significantly influence the opportunity of reusing materials used.
