About Poppykalas

Poppykalas is a Floral Design Studio based in Copenhagen. Poppykalas is known for their hauntingly beautiful flower arrangements and Thilde, the creator of the studio, was one of the first in Copenhagen to really showcase the use of dried flowers in bouquets. Poppykalas has a unique way of telling a story like no other. Luckily for us, Poppykalas have introduced posters for eternal flower joy in your home.

‘Flowers are my way of telling a story, setting a scene, creating emotion, speaking a language beyond spoken or written words. With form, colour, smell and touch I challenge the stage and the interaction in its very own distinctive way and extravagant style.’ - Thilde, Founder & Creative Director of Poppykalas.

Brand sustainability

Thilde, Founder and Creative Director of Poppykalas, has an experimental, dreamy, and extravagant approach to flowers that challenges the usual way of working with flowers. Eternally lasting dried flowers in anywhere from bigger to smaller constellations drives Thilde. Moreover, the projects that Poppykalas have created all have one thing in common: They have been created with mindful methods.

The Poppykalas print collection is based on 100% biodegradeable materials. Thilde explains that a Poppykalas item will never not be sustainable which also explains why she does not have a flower shop.

Brand Ethos

The love for nature and Mother Earth runs deep in the vains of PoppyKalas. What initially started out with a love for flowers has now moved into various industries. Common for all ventures, is the respect for people and planet and PoppyKalas is thus a Born Sustainable brand in sync with nature.

The Comarché Notes

As Thilde, founder of Poppykalas says, ‘There are so many opportunities to work with mother nature’ – and we just love that this is done with a sustainable mindset.

Sustainable highlights on brand level

Product Lifecycle

The Design Phase is a crucial part of determining a product’s sustainable capabilities. We’ve chosen to highlight a few genius steps that enable a sustainable product right from the beginning.

    Material & Material Extraction

The materials used for a certain product and how these materials come to life are of crucial importance to the sustainable capabilities we seek in products.

      Transportation of Materials

This step relates to the transportation of the raw materials from when they are first obtained (harvested etc.) to the production site. Obviously, the closer to the production site, the better.

Obviously, the production of a certain product has an impact on the overall level of sustainability. Luckily, many manufacturers have now taken steps towards more sustainable production methods.

How a brand chooses to package its products will have a significant influence of the carbon impact from packaging and transportation.

This step relates to the distribution of products when they have been produced. Obviously, the closer to the brand’s warehouse, the better.

How you choose to use and take care of a product has a bigger impact than you think. Just think about how much longer a shirt lasts if it has been washed in the right way.

                End of life

At this step, there is no way out and we have to find some way of discarding our product. How we discard a product will significantly influence the opportunity of reusing materials used.
